Support Team for Br. Hugh
From Good Immages

Thankyou to the good friends of Hugh who gave him feedback and helped him discover how God is working in his life to prepare him to become a priest.

People of the Resurrection,
In the reading this Sunday we learn about the Holy Spirit. He has a title that you may not know. Jesus tells us that he is the "Advocate." This means that he is our helper and our guide. He is our strong support our defence. The title "Advocate" is a way to compare the Holy Spirit to a good lawyer in a court who pleads our cause.

The Holy Spirit is a pure pure spirit. Unlike the second person of the Blessed Trinity he does not take up our nature. He is invisible. At the same time there are many signs that show us the Holy Spirit is present and active. In the scriptures when ever we see the signs of fire, or the outstretched hand, or the dove, we know that this means the Holy Spirit. This is not to say that the Holy Spirit is fire or a dove. He is not. These signs work to a kind of signal to show us His action.

In the first reading we see that the Holy Spirit is given by the "laying on of hands." We see this happen at Mass. During the Liturgy of the Eucharist, the Priest "calls down" the Holy Spirit on the gifts to make them holy so that they will become really and truly the Body and Blood of Christ for us. The Holy Spirit comes down upon the gifts by the priest stretching out his hands (palm down) over the gifts. This "calling down" is such a special and important part of the bread and wine being transformed that there is a word to describe it: The "Epiclesis."

We are approaching the end of the Easter season. This end is marked by a new beginning. The celebration of the end of Easter is called "Pentecost." It is also know as the "birthday of the Church." Why? Remember after Christ rose from the dead he did not immediately go back to heaven. He stayed here on Earth teaching his Apostles for about 40 days. Then he went back to the Father. We will celebrate that as the "Ascension." From Heaven the Father and the Son Sent the Holy Spirit to do his invisible work. When the Apostles received the Holy Spirit it was amazing. They were not afraid and full of excitement to continue bringing Christ's saving love to the world. We are now in the time of the Spirit. The Father and the Son continue to poor out the Spirit upon us and He works in and through us today. We will soon celebrate the beginning of this era in which we now live. Pray for our Confirmation Students who will be fully initiated into the life that comes from the Advocate. God loves them very much for calling them to prepare for so great gift as to be caught up into his very life by sending the Holy Spirit to live in their hearts.

In Christ,

Fr. St. Martin

Good People of Communion,

Good News. All our first communion students have made their first communion. Here is a note about class times from our great 1st communion coordinator and teacher.
"There has been a slight change. The original class was April 20th but due to spring vacation, we are moving it up to April 13. Fr. Jeremy will be joining us in the chapel. The children will have a chance to see and possibly taste the bread. We will also show the tabernacle, candle, altar, etc., if time permits. Pls come at 9am on April 13. Thanks!

Cheryl Johnston"

I also would like to thank Rick Johnson, Anne Folkhard, and Angela Chistoffels for their help with the class.

Penultimately, I would like to say that their is a Photographer coming on June 1st at 9:30 a.m. before the celebration of this years First Communion celebration at the 10:30 Mass. The company contact information can be found at www.coffeepond.com. Their other contact information can be found their as well. If you want to order aditional prints they have asked that you simply contact them directly and they will be happy to let you know how to purchase prints of different sizes and quantities. The parish will be providing each communicant with 1 group photo and 1 individual photo. These photos you don't need to ask for. They will be delivered to the rectory, several weeks after 1st Communion. That is all part of the contract.

Finally we have even more news of grace and blessing. Seminarian Shawn Carey is being sent to work this summer for the Deaf Catholic Ministries Office of the Archdiocese of Boston, the office I coordinate and which serves the Deaf Catholic Community at Sacred Heart and throughout the Archdiocese. He is studying to be a priest for the Archdiocese and is a son of the Parish at Sacred Heart as this parish has become the home for the Deaf Catholic Community by adoption some few years back. We give glory to God that one of our own sons is well on his way to becoming a servant of the Eucharist; a minister of communion for us; an separated instrument of God's love here on earth. Let us thank God in our prayers and pray for his happiness.

In Christ,

Fr. St. Martin

Sincerely in Christ,

Easter People,

The art of Ukranian Egg painting with a reverse wax and die method was practiced at the last 1st Tuesday Program over in the Mackenzie Center. What a joyful Easter project. A wonderful artist, Karen Swich, showed up to teach us this ancient technique. We also had the pleasure of being able to share stories with young people preparing to become nurse practitioners. They are learning how to provide better service to people who are deaf.

We must rejoice because there are three young people who are deaf who will be taking part in a retreat today. We must pray that they meet Christ in a special way at this time of drawing closer and focus on God's love.

Br. Hugh is going to be a speaker at a special event in Boston.
