Royal People,
Today is The Solemnity of Christ the King. We think of power today. Christ has it! He is the great powerful lover. His love from the throne of the cross crushes our enemies: sin and death. The great loving human heart of our mighty King undoes the Devil and his minions. How? Christ the King has stretched out is mighty arms on the cross and through a Majesty so great undoes all the raging and complicated work of the underworld by simply willing it; simply by loving; loving with a perfect human heart.
We who have come to believe in him are given a share in his kingdom. We are anointed like Christ and, once confirmed, fully initiated into his very life. This means that we too become kings. If we are kings then we are powerful. We have the power to have our own hearts become fully what they are, human. We have the power to not be enslaved to sin but to be free to love. We have the power to choose in union with the great Father in Heaven.
We thank the Father today for giving us Christ the King and for making us kings. Please pray for the young men and women in this parish who are preparing to come into the fullness of their share in Christ's Power through confirmation. Pray especially for our Catechumen, James, who will indeed be for us the newest member of our Royal family.
Through Christ,
Fr. St. Martin
